Jayhawks win for first time since 1994

The baseball variety of Jayhawks won 9-6 today--after trailing 5-0 to Hawaii after 3 innings. The Hawks responded, but I believe the verb "responded" does not do the comeback justice. The Jayhawks scored NINE unanswered runs--nine--and sealed off Hawaii for good. Don Czyz notched the save. Is "y" a consonant in Czyz? I guess it has to be a vowel. Wow. Cuz that would've been cool.

The Jayhawks play the Oregon St./Wright St. winner at 8 pm on Saturday.

Have a good weekend, my friends.

2 PM, Friday

The Jayhawks square off with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the Corvalis, OR Regional. If we win? That's right, the Jayhawks get to do something every grown man dreams of: punishing some Beaver, facing Oregon St. (assuming they defeat Wright St.) for a chance to advance to the Super Regionals.

Godspeed, Jayhawks....

CHAMPS CHAMPS CHAMPS

KU Baseball pulled off a landmark feat in its program's history--a Big 12 Tournament title and an automatic bid to the KU regionals. The Hawks hadn't won a conference title since 1947, and it took beating Nebraska, Mizzou (which also required a benches-cleared brawl), Oklahoma, and OSU. And for once, no Kansas players received any calls from Kelvin Sampson over the weekend. That guy must have a great cellular plan.
The Czyz brothers, Nick and Don, were instrumental in stopping the Huskers, who brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth. Czyz was brought in and induced a grounder to first, which could only mean one thing: Dogpile!
Wichita's own and Maize High product Matt Baty was tournament MVP. Congratulations to the Jayhawks.
